Branding visual journey: How to make photograph that fit your brand

Many times we had people coming and asking us to take photograph of their product, brand or their people. We’re happy to hear that, but most of the time client has a vague idea about how it made. All they know is they want some photographs. It’s like you jump on the taxi, and tell them to go without arrival. It is a very inefficient way to spend your money just to get some mediorce results.

HOW CAN I START?

First, let start with your brand. If you are new and doesn’t have any brand guideline, you should develop one as soon as possible. Brand guideline is your own measurement, you can wield to make content that fit and coherent, and in the end, it becomes your brand identity. The more contents you produce, the more you appreciate your brand guideline.

Brand guideline doesn’t have to be complicated. Look at other brands you like, how they present themselves to you. Look at their website, their social media system. Find their identity. Are they elegant, fabulous or minimal? How are they making their content? How are their images looks, bright, funny or dark and moody? Slowly you’ll discover how brand build their identity. Learn, copy, steal, create. Make your own.

Now you know what you looking for. You’ll be able to tell photographer what you want, through your guideline and reference. This is way easier than ‘I want some photos’. Not only it boosts up process, you can even measure the outcome and evaluate it.

THE PURPOSE OF IMAGES

In digital age, internet and social media has become indispensable in our daily life. People spend more than two hours everyday just to scroll through social media. And more so on other digital platform. This also mean you have another way to market you or your product in front of people easily.

Internet people are in hurry. You don’t have much time to impress them, no more than few seconds. Either your images or videos, you need impressive images to make them stop and take a look. Even harder when your content is not the only one, you have to compete with others, who also want to steal your potential customer interest. You need to stand out. Your images need to stand out.

Yet dont chase the unicorn: viral. You never know what viral and what not. People change, trends come and go, taste of culture evolve. Copying something viral can help in short term, but it wont help building your own brand identity. Be original, be true to your brand.

After all, knowing what your brand need is already half way to build strong brand.
