Watch photography: why is so expensive

Casio is a familiar name in our comunity. My generation grew up with at least one casio some times in their student life. So when i got a chance to photograph a retro Casio model, i didnt think twice.

And yes, it’s look shiny and gorgeous. And Problematic!

Veteran photographers know shiny stuffs is a real headache. you have to master lighting to light it good. You may think photography is art. But this one is about math and physic.

so first, let’s get the watch rigged.

Fired.

Holy! It’s suck. Maybe i should quit doing photography.

Okay, let’s add some lights.

And some bounce.

More lights.

More bounce.

And finally, my rig looks like this:

Yes, all of this just to bounce some light onto the watch.

With watch photography, shooting is just half the way to the final. Editing is as important as shooting. I have to stack few different shots to create the final.

And a lot of dust/scratches cleaning. Yes, the smaller the product, the more time you have to spend to clean it up. Sometimes days, not hours.

Finally, all hard work pays off.

I’m happy to see my childhood memory come into my photo.

Long live Casio!
